Dual Purpose Clothesline or What I did In July

Hello heat-survivors! Uh huh, we lived to tell also. :)

I've done a bit of canning from the garden since we visited last. Here are garlic dills.

And green beans cooling in the pressure canner.

I'm looking forward to using these tomatoes in soups once the weather cools down.

In my last post I mentioned that I had plans for my new clothesline...

And I showed you the fabrics I intended to use.

Well, I measured, cut, pieced and sewed a bit between all the canning and, oh yeah, we had family from out-of-state visit, too, but I finished my li'l project at last.

Here it is, an umbrella-type cover to give the clothesline a dual purpose and hopefully cut down on the sun fading our darker clothing as it hangs to dry.  I'm basically pleased with it, but the cover was hanging there just doing it's job shading yet a bit limp and lack-luster...then

A breezy updraft caught it....

Yes, this is more like it.

I can see that I need something similar to dome-type tent poles to give the cover a slight upward lift all the time.

I'm still working on that and hope to add that later, but all in all I'm happy with it. You just can't beat having a clothesline to save money on your electricity bill AND shade from the harsh sun for the darker clothing AND for sitting under while sitting on the back deck.

Until last summer I'd never heard of moonflowers. They bloom at night and have a heavy, sweet scent.

Until next time take care,  don't believe everything you hear and nothing you read in mass media. ;)

  1. Yes, it sure has been a HOT summer this year! I think the topper for your clothesline is a *fantastic* solution!

Thank you for visiting my blog and for taking the time to comment. I see we have a couple of things in common such as Jesus Christ as our Saviour, the KJ Bible and loving the movie 'Sheffey'.

    So nice to meet you.....

  5. The garden did pretty well in spite of the 100+ heatwave, Mum. I'm envying the pickles, but mostly I'm sighing over the canned tomatoes. I hope for beef and vegetable soup on a visit, sometime this winter(hehe).
I think the clothesline cover is a roaring success:D
I think that moonflower is very cool and very southern-feeling. Makes a body think of jasmine and magnolias, don't it?
I think I'm going to sue blogger for easier to read identity words. They drive me cross-eyed, lately.
